Another experiment in my quest to integrate my various art styles comes in the form of this trio of oil paintings layered with digital hand lettering.
Each background was painted from simple textural reference, with an intentionally dark and limited range of tones so that the white lettering would contrast well. I also used a lot more wet-on-wet painting than usual, to give them a soft blended quality that recedes behind the words.
These phrases were born out of appreciation for my own resilience as I freed myself from my abuser– and the resilience of everyone who supported me with beautiful acts of survivor solidarity and community care. Here’s hoping they will apply to the larger systems of oppression we’re all facing.
